You’ve probably seen THCP in a vape or gummy package and wondered—is this stuff actually safe? Short answer: we don’t fully know yet. But here’s what we do know—and what you should think about before lighting up or popping a THC-P gummy.
THCP (tetrahydrocannabiphorol) is a cannabinoid that’s naturally found in cannabis—but only in trace amounts. It was discovered in 2019, and lab-made versions are now being used in vapes, edibles, and tinctures.
Here’s the kicker: THCP is thought to be up to 33 times more active than regular THC at the body’s CB1 receptors. That means stronger effects— so potentially MUCH stronger—at smaller doses!
No long-term studies exist.
It’s not FDA-approved or clinically tested for safety.
Most products are made using lab-synthesized THCP, often derived from hemp to stay “legally gray.”
But that doesn’t mean it’s dangerous—it just means we don’t know enough yet.
People who’ve tried THCP (especially in vapes and edibles) say:
It hits harder and lasts longer than delta-9 THC.
It can cause anxiety or paranoia in higher doses.
Some feel an extreme body high, even from a small hit or one gummy.
Everyone reacts differently—especially with a compound this potent.
Overconsumption
Because it’s so strong, dosing is tricky. Too much can hit like a freight train.
Unregulated Products
Many THCP products aren’t third-party tested. That means you don’t really know what’s in them unless there’s a COA (Certificate of Analysis).
Unknown Side Effects
We don’t have clinical data yet on how THCP affects your heart, brain, or long-term mental health.
Mixing with Other Substances
Combining THCP with alcohol or other meds? Bad idea. It can amplify sedation or confusion.
It’s usually made from legal hemp, which technically makes it legal under the 2018 Farm Bill—but state laws vary, and that loophole may not last forever. It’s not the same as traditional cannabis, and it can definitely get flagged on a drug test.
Here’s a simple breakdown:
Type of Person | THCP Advice |
---|---|
Experienced stoner | Go slow. Think ¼ dose or less than you’d take with THC. |
New to weed | Start with regular THC or delta-8. THCP is not a beginner’s cannabinoid. |
Parent concerned about safety | Know that it’s unregulated and very potent. Talk to your kid about risk, not just legality. |
Curious but cautious | Wait for more data or stick with tested, regulated cannabis. |
We’ve tested it in-house, and we like it. But it may not be safe for everyone.
It’s super potent – A lot stronger than Delta 8/9 and other THC types
It’s mostly unregulated
And it’s not for everyone
If you’re going to try it, do your homework, read lab reports, and start low—way lower than usual. And if you’re not sure, you’re probably better off skipping it until there’s more research.
